Why Choose Our NC Center Drills?
JINOO’s D9100-Series solid carbide center drills feature a unique geometry design, promoting the creation of more accurate holes with higher machining efficiency.

Fine-Grain Carbide Substrate
Our center drills are all manufactured from ultra-fine grain carbide substrates with uniform structure and uniform grain distribution.

Oerlikon AlTiN Coating Technology
Oerlikon AlTiN coatings feature even coating thickness and strong adhesion to improve drill bit performance.

90° and 120° Point Angle Design
90° and 120° point angles are available in center drill types to suit centering and positioning needs.

Cutting Edge Preparation
Micro-honed cutting edges of center drills are designed with a controllable edge radius and improved edge integrity.

Optimized Flute Geometry
Center drills are engineered with optimized flutes, which feature superior profiles and precisely-ground surfaces.

Reinforced Core Design
The reinforced core geometry is designed with a higher core thickness and a rigid structure.
Center Drill Geometry Breakdown
1.Fine-Grain Carbide Substrate for Higher Rigidity
Our solid carbide center drill bits are manufactured from 0.2μm fine-grain carbide, enabling higher tool rigidity and wear resistance in precision spotting.
2.AlTiN Coatings for High Heat Resistance
Combined with advanced Oerlikon AITiN coatings, center drills can enhance heat resistance up to 900°C, especially when they are used for spotting in stainless steel.
3. 90° and 120° Point Angles for Positional Accuracy
Specialized 90° and 120° drill point angles can deliver stable tool engagement and precise hole positioning with the accurate pilot seat.
4. Precise Edge Preparation for Edge Integrity
Micro-honed cutting edges can uniformly distribute cutting loads and minimize edge chipping with the controlled edge radius.
5. Optimized Flute Geometry for Efficient Chip Flow
Precision-ground flutes can promote efficient chip evacuation and greatly decrease heat generation.
6. Reinforced Core Design for Higher Strength
Increased web thickness greatly improves torsional rigidity with bending resistance to minimize tool vibration.
7. Balanced Helix Angles for Superior Chip Control
Balanced helix angles are typically between 20° and 30° to balance edge strength and sharpness, improving the control of chip flow.
8. Shortened Chisel Edge for Less Thrust Force
The short chisel edge design can decrease the extrusion zone to reduce thrust force, enhancing centering accuracy with smooth entry.
9. Precisely-Ground Relief Angle for Less Friction
Precision-ground relief angle can minimize flank contact with sufficient edge support, decreasing the tool friction and improving dimensional accuracy.

FAQ about Center Drills
What workpiece materials can your solid carbide center drills process?
Our carbide center drills are designed for universal machining purposes. There are widely available workpiece materials, including Steel Parts (P), Stainless Steel (M), Non-ferrous Metal (N), and High-temperature Alloy (S). Our larger polished HELICA flutes, combined with coating technology, enable our solid carbide center drills to gain significant performance on various workpieces.
With rich experiences, we can also achieve the perfect balance between standard and customization for CNC spotting drill bits to meet various unique demands.
What is a center drill for?
Our carbide center drills are designed for machining stainless steel and difficult-to-process materials. Due to the short flute length and prominent apex angle features of spotting drills, they are rigid enough to drill hard materials, especially stainless steel. Our unique CNC center drills significantly improve later machining efficiency and extend the tool’s lifespan.
How can coating technology enhance the performance of Center Drills?
The unique geometry design of our 90-degree carbide center drills and 120-degree carbide center drills, combined with advanced coating technology like TiN, can promote reduced chip accumulation during precise positioning and increase the center drill bit lifespan.
Spot drills can’t replace center drills due to their different machining purposes. Spot drills are mainly used for machining starting points before drilling. However, center drills are more suitable for creating center holes due to their robust tool body and short cutting lengths.
Center drills are primarily applied for producing precision starting points and center holes before subsequent machining. They can significantly decrease tool deflection to ensure accurate positioning. However, regular drills are mainly used for drilling operations with higher material removal rates.
The design and quality of the Center Drills are critical factors that will impact the machining efficiency. In addition, other external factors should also be considered during the operation process.
Be cautious about the irregularities in the materials, which apply to both bar stock raw materials and machined materials. Any of these failures will increase the damage to the carbide center drills and render the machining ineffective. Flex in the drill is also a factor in the failure of the tools. The pointed tip might be away from the central axis line without the proper machining, leading to the position hole not being central, subsequent eccentric cutting of the main drill, and large hole tolerance variations. Always remember that the Center Drills are only used for “precise positioning” rather than materials removal and drilling purposes.
It is important to have the proper methods for using Center Drills, especially if you want to achieve excellent pre-drilling operations and perfect protection for the following carbide drills.
It is critical to remember that Center Drills are used for pre-positioning to prevent the drill from walking and improve the hole’s accuracy and coaxiality.
Step 1: Choose the correct angle for the carbide center drills.
Step 2: Ensure the solid carbide drill bits are aligned and securely clamped.
Step 3: Check the relevant specifications, like the center drills’ rotation speed and feed rate.
Step 4: Control the drilling depth of spot drills, usually 0.5x-1x, with the diameter of the center drill.
Step 5: Confirm the purpose of further drilling; the main drills should be positioned at the central point.
Center drills and carbide spot drills should maintain shallow drilling depths as they are only used for hole positioning. We recommend you drill with the recommended spotting depths between 0.3D and 0.6D of the drill bit diameter to avoid excessive cutting forces. Less tool wandering and hole positioning accuracy can be ensured with the correct drilling depths.
The best cutting speeds of center drills depend on the workpiece material and drill bit diameters. Higher spindle speeds are recommended for solid carbide CN center drills. For example, 3000 to 6000 RPM should be used for small-diameter workpieces in machining steel parts. Higher spindle speeds should be used for machining aluminum. Proper cutting speeds can promote accurate hole positioning and decrease tool vibration.
